On June 23rd 2019 we had the pleasure to participate to the annual Hamlyn Symposium on Robotics 2019, at the Royal Geographical Society, London and organizing the workshop “Towards Robotic Autonomy in Surgery” sponsored by the University of Verona.

Una giornata dedicata all’innovazione tecnologica

Speedhub, il Digital Innovation Hub di Confindustria Verona, in collaborazione con Comau, azienda italiana leader nei prodotti e sistemi di automazione industriale avanzata, e con il dipartimento di Informatica dell’ateneo, promuove l’evento “Robotica, trasformazione digitale e apprendimento”, che si terrà il 9 maggio alle 9.30 all’istituto tecnico-tecnologico Ferraris.

L’evento si aprirà con i saluti di Franco Fummi e di Riccardo Muradore, docenti di Sistemi di elaborazione delle informazioni dell’ateneo scaligero, che presenteranno il progetto di eccellenza del dipartimento “Informatica per Industria 4.0” e la nuova laurea magistrale in Robotics & digital manufacturing engineering.

Si proseguirà con la premiazione per il conseguimento del patentino della robotica ai migliori studenti del Veneto, Trentino e Friuli. In seguito, si svolgeranno tre workshop paralleli a partecipanti ristretti: e.DO Experience per gruppi scolastici su prenotazione; eDO cafè, riservato al confronto con dirigenti e docenti scolastici, fondazioni, associazioni e musei; HUMANufacturing Technology con l’introduzione alla vision Comau, il nuovo esoscheletro indossabile MATE e il veicolo a guida autonoma Agile1500, riservato a piccole, media e grandi aziende e università.

La robotica è ormai un elemento tecnologico indispensabile per qualunque professione e tutti dovrebbero averne una conoscenza di base, così come per l’informatica e i telefoni cellulari.
Ccon le iniziative che abbiamo in corso, che saranno aperte alle scuole, alle aziende e agli ordini professionali, vogliamo dare un contributo importante all’alfabetizzazione robotica della città e della regione e contribuire a migliorare sia i processi produttivi delle aziende che la vita indipendente delle persone.

Also this year we are happy to participate in Kidsuniversity Verona, the annual event of popularization for children, teachers, families and institutions of the Verona area.

4th Edition from 13th to 23th September. Save these dates!

KidsLab University – Monday, September 17 from 8:45 to 12:15
the ALTAIR Laboratory will be open to schools.

During the morning it will be possible to visit the laboratory and see or participate in experimental demonstrations involving articulated manipulators, mobile robots on wheels, autonomous aircraft and robots for surgery.
The aim of the workshop is to introduce young people to the main areas of research in robotics: robotic surgery, human-machine interaction, assistance to elderly or disabled people, service robotics, search and rescue robots.

FamilyLab – Saturday 22 September from 10-11.30 (reservation only)
the ALTAIR Laboratory will be open to families with children aged 8 to 13 years.

Guided tour of the ALTAIR robotics laboratory, with Bogdan Maris, assistant professor of Robotics.
Kids and adults will have the opportunity to visit the robotics laboratory and participate in experimental demonstrations involving articulated manipulators, mobile robots, autonomous aircraft and robots for surgery.

Alla scoperta della robotica, dai mattoncini Lego ai robot chirurgici.

Venerdì 23 Novembre il Laboratorio di robotica ALTAIR  ha aperto le porte al pubblico in occasione della European Robotics Week 2018 – Settimana Europea della Robotica 2018.

Nonostante la pioggia battente oltre quaranta visitatori si sono susseguiti nei tre turni di visite al laboratorio; un pubblico di grandi e piccoli appassionati di nuove tecnologie provenienti dal territorio veronese e incuriositi dall’insolita iniziativa.

Con l’aiuto degli studenti delle scuole superiori è stato mostrato come la robotica può essere imparata attraverso il gioco, usando i mattoncini Lego MindStorm per assemblare e programmare tre diversi progetti di robotica applicata a problemi quotidiani.
I progetti presentati sono il risultato del percorso Alternanza Scuola Lavoro (ASL) svolto a Giugno 2018 presso il Dipartimento di Informatica, esperienza che ha coinvolto un totale di 24 ragazzi provenienti da diversi istituti superiori del veronese e del vicentino.

I visitatori sono stati successivamente introdotti nel cuore della ricerca di ALTAIR, i robot attualmente in uso nel laboratorio sono stati messi in azione dalle mani esperte dei ricercatori ALTAIR: sonde medicali e un braccio robot di tipo cooperativo di recente acquisizione.
La visita si è conclusa con la presentazione del prestigioso robot da Vinci, una tecnologia oramai presente in molte sale operatorie d’Italia e di cui il laboratorio vanta uno dei pochi esemplari disponibili per scopo didattico nel nostro paese.

Un pomeriggio all’insegna della robotica dedicato a tutte le età per conoscere i progressi nel campo della ricerca universitaria e per scoprire come questa materia possa essere parte della nostra vita quotidiana.

È stato un piacere aprire le porte a piccoli e grandi, spiegare i progetti di robotica che stiamo sviluppando a Verona e come la robotica diventerà nel futuro sempre più onnipresente nella nostra vita quotidiana.

Robotic Solutions for Infrastructure Predictive Maintenance – A seminar by Michele Guarnieri – Co-Founder of HiBot Corporation

HiBot Corporation, since its establishment, has been committed to the development of practical robotic solutions for extreme environments.
It is now engaging in the development of products for performing dangerous jobs, such as inspections where human should not or cannot go. The use of robots, not only can make the operator’s working environment safer, but can also lead to a higher level of efficiency and reliability of inspection and data collection, which is used for preventive/predictive maintenance of infrastructures.
In his talk, Michele Guarnieri, will be presenting several robotic developments with showing videos and photos of each system.

Michele Guarnieri is the co-founder and executive director at HiBot Corporation. He received his “Laurea” degree in Computer Science from the University of Verona (Italy) in 2000. He moved to Japan in 2001 at Tokyo Institute of Technology with the Prof. Hirose Laboratory. There he received the MS and PhD degrees in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering respectively in 2004 and 2007. After establishing HiBot Corporation, some of his projects were awarded with the Robot Award from the Japanese Ministry of Economy (2010), the Edison Gold Award (2015), the World Economic Forum’s selection of Technology Pioneer (2015) and the IEEE Inaba Innovation Technology award in 2017.
